Beautiful America

Sequestered in gritty New York, I often forget the clean, sheer vastness of what’s just beyond the city. I took these photos of the Hudson River this morning on the train to Poughkeepsie (MetroNorth rail: $37 return) – the first was just ten minutes after leaving Grand Central Station.

You realise what "deep blue" means.

Great photos. Brought back memories of when I lived in NYC and my husband and I would take the Poughkeepsie line to Garrison and go to Guinan’s Country Store and Pub. Sadly Guinan’s is no longer there. The next town over is a great little town-Village of Cold Spring should you find yourself headed that way again.

Thanks Michelle! I’d never been to Poughkeepsie before and always thought there was something funny about it — such an odd name. It was a really lovely journey there, and made me realise that there’s so much of America I want to see beyond New York. Thanks for the Village of Cold Spring recommendation.
